The
Pressure Technology Group represents the Pressure Vessels and Piping
(PVP), Pipeline Systems (PSD) and Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE)
Engineering Divisions. Membership is about 70% from industry and government.
The remaining membership is from academia. Four percent of the Societys
student members have indicated an interest in the Group's Technologies.
Activities
of the PT group are intended to provide a knowledge center for the international
pressure technology community, serving manufacturing, operations, inspection
and research in the various pressure industries. Activities of the divisions
include the annual Pressure Vessels and Piping Conference, the International
Pipeline Conference as well as the NDE Topical Conference. Additionally,
members of the PT divisions participate in the ASME Codes and Standards
committees and in various international pressure technology conferences.
In addition, the group publishes the Journal of Pressure Vessels Technology
as well as numerous conference proceedings. This Group's mentors regional
events and provides expertise important to products in the global marketplace..
(See Section VII for Individual Division Description).
HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED You can become involved in ASME 's activities by joining the Society as a member. Member benefits can be viewed by clicking on "Membership" and then on the "Benefits of Membership" . A wide selection of benefits can now be explored. Applications for membership can also be accessed by clicking on "Membership Application". To explore Division opportunities, your contacts are: http://divisions.asme.org/nde/ http://divisions.asme.org/pvp If one of our Division's activities represent the area of greatest interest to you, identify it as your Primary Division. If one of our other Divisions serves your other needs, identify it as your Secondary Division. MISSION To promote the art and science of mechanical engineering applied to systems, structures and components in the fields of materials, non-destructive evaluation and pressure vessels and piping in accordance with the scopes of the constituent divisions and committees. VISION To disseminate the latest knowledge and techniques in the areas of design analysis, design criteria, structural reliability, in-service inspection and life performance and their relationship to materials properties, fabrication processes, examination and testing through journals, papers, technical meetings and conferences. In addition, to support the ASME in all aspects of its operations including research, technical codes and standards, professional development, public affairs and honors and awards. OBJECTIVES Initiate Adopt-A-Section program at Division level to connect to members Establishing relationships with Region VIII and the Western Washington Section. The site of PVP '00 is Seattle, WA. Develop mentoring program for students and young engineers. Present first Group Award for Materials and Structures applications in conjunction with Student Design Competition. Establish communications "fact sheet" reference for Division communication such as newsletters and web pages Sponsor Leadership Development Intern at division level; have at least one in place by 1999 Establish Honors and Awards programs with NDE Engineering Document Group's international experience as basis for exploring future opportunities GOALS Encourage membership and involve more members in conference activities Serve as mentors for development of regional symposia and conferences Partner with Materials and Structures industries to demonstrate value of ASME Establish programs focused on the needs of students and young engineers Enhance Group communications; initiate Group Newspaper Improve group Honors and Awards activities
PUBLICATIONS NDE Engineering Division. The Division's papers at the PVP Conference are usually incorporated into the PVP Conference proceedings. When a Topical Conference is held, there is usually a volume of the presented papers published. Publications - http://www.asme.org/pubs/journals/ Pressure Vessels and Piping Division. The Division produces the Journal of Pressure Vessels Technology. It also publishes its papers in Proceedings of its annual conference. In addition, papers presented at the IMECE are published in its Proceedings. Publications - http://www.asme.org/pubs/journals/ Authors Kit: - http://www.asme.org/pubs/authors/index.html GROUP
AND DIVISION AWARDS
Pressure Technology Group The A. O. Schaefer Award was established in the late 1980's by ASME, the Materials Properties Council, and the American Society for Testing and Materials, to honor Adolph O. Schaefer, who provided extraordinary professional service involving ASME Codes & Standards activities, as well as advancing the science of materials engineering. The award is bestowed in recognition of eminent achievement or distinguished contribution in the areas of codes and standards and materials engineering. It consists of a $1,000 honorarium, a certificate and plaque. Pressure Vessels and Piping Division The Pressure Vessels & Piping Award established in 1980, is bestowed to an individual for outstanding contributions in the field of Pressure Vessels and Piping Technology including, but not limited to, research, development, applications or teaching. It consists of a $1,000 honorarium, a medal and a certificate. Nondestructive Evaluation Engineering Division The Founders Award was established in 1999 to honor individuals whose work has been exemplary of the goals of the founders of the division. It is awarded every other year and consists of a monetary award of up to $1,000. plus a certificate. The Outstanding Conference Paper Award is awarded annually to a presenter from one of the divisions technical sessions. It is in the form of a certificate.
STUDENT CONTESTS/SCHOLARSHIPS Pressure Technology
Group Application Contest. The inaugural award (in process) is given
in association with Manufacturing Engineering Contest held annually
at the IMECE. It will be a special award for the best Materials &
Structures application. The dollar amount of the award has not been
established yet.
Scholarships. A
onetime scholarship for $5,000 was presented to Clarkson University
in honor of Richard H. Gallagher, a past PVP Chair, who passed away
recently. |
